Due East Makes a Stop in the Bluegrass

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 30, 2009) − The eclectic flute and percussion duo Due East will present a recital of new works for Bluegrass audiences at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the University of Kentucky Singletary Center for the Arts Recital Hall. This recital is free and open to the public.

Due East brings deep musicianship and virtuosity to all that they play. In a single evening concert, they travel through the raw beauty of Brazilian folk music to the intricate scores of Xenakis with an unwavering commitment, inspiring audiences with illuminating insight into new musical vistas. The duo's high level of preparation, dedication and execution is impressive, and their growing repertoire is both colorful and imaginative.

Due East won first prize in the 2008 National Flute Association Chamber Music Competition. The duo has performed in Brazil, Europe, Canada and the U.S. at such venues as the Warsaw Crossdrumming Festival, Banff Centre for the Arts, the SEAMUS conference, Bargemusic, National Flute Association Conventions in Kansas and New York, and the Percussive Arts Society International Conventions in Texas, Tennessee and Ohio. Additionally, the duo has given recitals at performing arts series, such as Ke’nek’t, at State University of New York-Oswego, and Arts and Ideas, at Lewis University; and at new music festivals and universities across the country.
