'No More Winter' Concert to Sizzle

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 18, 2010) − The University of Kentucky Symphony Band invites the public to attend its "No More Winter" concert. People are encouraged to enjoy the sizzling sounds of the symphony in the warm confines of the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall, where the concert will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21. The concert is free and open to the public.

The No More Winter concert program will consist of music from several composers, including Third Suite by Robert Jager; "Harvest Hymn" by Percy Grainger; "Danceries" by Kenneth Hesketh; "Rolling Thunder" by Henry Fillmore; "Before the Storm" by Stephen Melillo; and Concertino for Four Percussion and Wind Ensemble by David Gillingham.

The University of Kentucky Symphony Band is comprised of music majors and talented musicians from other majors across campus. Conducted by George R. Boulden, associate director of UK Bands, the group performs music for large and chamber ensembles.

All attendees of the No More Winter concert will receive a free copy of the just released "2009 Band Spectacular: LIVE in Lexington VII" CD. This CD includes performances from the UK Jazz Ensemble, UK Ragtime Ensemble, UK Wind Ensemble and the UK Marching Band.
