of

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 30, 2009) − 'Tis the season for the University of Kentucky Choirs' annual "Collage" concert, this year featuring celebrated soprano Cynthia Lawrence. UK Choirs present the 12th annual "Collage" concerts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, in the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall.

The "Collage" concert, a much anticipated holiday tradition throughout central Kentucky, will feature the highly acclaimed UK Chorale, Choristers, Women’s Choir and Men’s Chorus, as well as the unique sounds of the UK Choirs’ a cappella groups acoUstiKats and Paws and Listen, and the lively bluegrass ensemble GrassKats. Also joining the choirs will be UK faculty members Schuyler Robinson, on organ; Scott Wright, on clarinet; and virtuoso guitarist Dieter Hennings, a new addition this year. Annual instrumental favorites the UK Steel Band and Mega-Sax will add their special sounds to this fast-paced, visually stimulating program.

In addition to showcasing the UK Choirs and faculty, each year "Collage" reaches into the rich talents of the Lexington arts community. This year’s concert is no exception. It will feature the angelic voices of the Lexington Singers Children’s Choir and the lovely timbres of Alluring Handbell Ensemble.

Special guest artist for 2009's "Collage" is internationally acclaimed soprano Cynthia Lawrence. Lawrence joined the UK faculty this fall as the new Endowed Chair in Voice. Accompanied by more than 200 singers, she will be performing audience favorite "O Holy Night."

Conducting the "Collage" concert will be Jefferson Johnson, director of Choral Activities, and Lori Hetzel, associate director of Choral Activities at UK.

Tickets for "Collage" are $22 for adults and seniors and $10 for students and children.  A rate of $15 is available for groups of 10 or more.
