LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 4, 2014) — The University of Kentucky Singletary Center for the Arts will be kicking off its 2014-2015 season with a performance by the Grammy-nominated artist Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue. The celebrated artist and his ensemble will perform 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at the Singletary Center Concert Hall.

New Orleans native Troy 'Trombone Shorty' Andrews is a rare artist inspired by a blend of musical genres, mixing rock, funk, jazz, hip-hop and soul and creating a new name to describe his signature sound: Supafunkrock. A band leader since the age of 6, Trombone Shorty has made his presence known worldwide through appearances on the 2014 Grammy Awards, the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and "Austin City Limits." In 2012, Trombone Shorty performed at the White House in honor of Black History Month alongside music royalty including B.B. King, Mick Jagger and Jeff Beck. Later that same year he received the President's Medal from Tulane University in recognition of his charitable work with his own Trombone Shorty Foundation, providing musical instruments to children in financial need.

Ticket prices are based on seating location and range from $27 to $35 plus processing fees. The tickets can be purchased via phone at the Singletary Center Ticket Office at 859-257-4929, online at www.SCFATickets.com, or in person at the ticket office.

A part of the UK College of Fine Arts, the Singletary Center for the Arts presents and hosts around 400 artistic, cultural and educational events annually for the university community, Lexington community, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
