Only Four More Chances to See UK Theatre’s 'Henry V'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 22, 2018) — Lovers of William Shakespeare's work have snatched up tickets to the last four sold out performances of University of Kentucky Department of Theatre and Dance’s production of “Henry V” Feb. 22-25, in the Guignol Theatre.

“Henry V,” or the prince of freedom, is about a young king proving his worth to his nation through the invasion of France. Shakespeare explores the opposing thoughts of the ruler as a self-righteous 20-year-old king and as a shrewd negotiator of foreign and domestic affairs. Through this work the bard illustrates the horrors of war and the reality of the growing pains of a young royal. UK’s production is directed by Christina Ritter, a lecturer at UK Theatre and artistic director of the for/word company, known for its dynamic stagings and innovative interpretations of material from the historical record.

The cast of “Henry V” will command the stage 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 22-24, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, at Guignol Theatre. 

The UK Department of Theatre and Dance at UK College of Fine Arts has played an active role in the performance scene in Central Kentucky for more than 100 years, offering theatre as an educational program of study. Students in the program get hands-on training and one-on-one mentorship from the renowned professional theatre faculty. The liberal arts focus of their bachelor's degree program is coupled with ongoing career counseling to ensure a successful transition from campus to professional life.
