Renowned saxophonist Joshua Redman brings quartet to the Singletary Center
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 22, 2026) — Award-winning and Grammy-nominated saxophonist Joshua Redman will bring his contemporary jazz stylings to the Singletary Center for the Arts Recital Hall Sunday, Jan. 25, in the Singletary Center for the Arts Recital Hall.
The performance features Redman’s newest quartet, formed following his Blue Note release on his latest album, “Words Fall Short.” Joined by pianist Paul Cornish, bassist Philip Norris and drummer Nazir Ebo, Redman leads a group known for its energy and strong musical chemistry. Together, they create music that is dynamic and alive in the moment, offering audiences an experience that is unmistakably human.
For more than three decades, saxophonist and composer Joshua Redman has been celebrated for his expressive sound and deep connection with audiences. Fluent in the language of jazz but never bound by it, he blends tradition with fresh ideas, shaping music that is thoughtful, emotional, and inviting. His performances move easily between structure and spontaneity, creating moments that feel both personal and shared.
After graduating summa cum laude from Harvard University and deferring admission to Yale Law School, Redman returned fully to the arts, immersing himself in New York City’s vibrant jazz scene. In the early 1990s, he gained international recognition after winning the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. His career has since included 10 Grammy nominations, a body of acclaimed recordings and collaborations with artists like Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones.
“I’m tremendously pleased to continue the Singletary Center’s tradition of bringing the most prestigious and ground-breaking jazz artists to Lexington,” said Singetary Center Director Matthew Gibson. “Folks who followed the Spotlight Jazz Series will recognize Redman as one of the preeminent band leaders of his generation, but audiences who have been following our expanded jazz programming over the past few years will be similarly delighted by the virtuosic talent of this group. Redman has played with Emmet Cohen, who we presented last season as well as with the Bad Plus who will be at the Singletary Center this March, so we’re active with a network of musicians who are both rooted in tradition and exploring new artistic directions.”
Tickets for the performance are on sale now, available online at www.SCFATickets.com or through the Singletary Center ticket office at 859-257-4929. This performance is free for UK students.
