WKYT will broadcast Alltech and UK Opera Theatre's 2018 "Celebration of Song" concert noon, Dec. 25.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 19, 2018) Lexington TV station WKYT and local NPR-affiliate WUKY will broadcast the 13th anniversary "Celebration of Song" sing-along holiday concert featuring University of Kentucky Opera Theatre vocalists leading the community in popular carols. The concert programming will air noon Tuesday (Christmas), Dec. 25, on WKYT and online at www.wkyt.com, and again that night at 7 p.m., on 91.3 FM and www.WUKY.org.

Conducted by Director of UK Opera Theatre Everett McCorvey, "Celebration of Song" featured performances of beloved carols by award-winning vocalists from UK Opera Theatre.

Lending their talents to the celebration this year were several vocalists and instrumentalists, including Metropolitan Opera star and faculty member Cynthia Lawrence, alumnus Gregory Turay, the acoUstiKats and the UK Trumpet Ensemble. The free public concerts were filmed Dec. 9, at The Square.

Each year "Celebration of Song" encourages the Central Kentucky community to become part of the concert and sing along to a great selection of well-known seasonal songs and carols. The concert was the brainchild of Alltech founder Pearse Lyons, and his wife Deirdre, who continually demonstrated their passion and dedication to Lexington's local arts scene through the years. It also celebrates the long-lasting partnership between Alltech and the UK Opera Theatre program.

UK Opera Theatre is part of the School of Music at the UK College of Fine Arts. The school, currently celebrating its 100th anniversary, has garnered a national reputation for high-caliber education in opera, choral and instrumental music performance, as well as music education, music therapy, composition, and theory and music history.
