Have What it Takes to Star in 'Gorey Stories'?

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 27, 2010) − Have you dreamed of performing on stage in a Broadway hit? If you are an aspiring actor or actress, don't miss your chance to audition for the University of Kentucky Department of Theatre's production of "Gorey Stories" next week at Briggs Theatre.

Auditions for "Gorey Stories" will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, and Tuesday, Aug. 31, in the Briggs Theatre. Each auditionee should prepare a 90 second audition consisting of a limerick from the script (or any Gorey limerick) and a monologue of your choice. One of these pieces should be performed in British dialect, while the other should be done in either Cockney, Scots or Irish dialect. For more information, contact stage manager Natalie Nicole Burns at natalienicole@uky.edu or Becky Amsler at rebecca.amsler@uky.edu.

"Gorey Stories" is derived from a macabre assortment of tales, songs and limericks from the gothic writer-illustrator Edward Gorey, and was adapted for the stage by UK alumnus Stephen Currens. The production, first staged at the university, went on to appear on Broadway at the Booth Theatre in 1978. "Gorey Stories," the second production to be staged during UK Theatre's 2010-2011 main stage season, will run Oct. 7-9 and 14-17, 2010, on the Guignol stage.
