UK Opera Theatre to Embark on Broadway Journey With 'Show Boat'

UK Opera Theatre will present "Show Boat" March 2-4, at the Singletary Center for the Arts.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 19, 2018) Next weekend, University of Kentucky Opera Theatre will embark on a Broadway journey with the award-winning musical “Show Boat.” The production will take the stage March 2-4, at the Singletary Center for the Arts.

“Show Boat,” featuring music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, is known as one of the most romantic musicals of all time as it travels through 40 pivotal years of American history following the lives and loves of three generations on a show boat. Directed by Michael Ehrman, the UK Opera Theatre program will showcase university talents on such musical theatre classics as “Make Believe,” “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man” and “Ol’ Man River.”

Evening performances of "Show Boat" will begin 7:30 p.m., March 2-4. Matinee performances will start 2 p.m., March 3-4. Tickets range from $40-$45 for general public and seniors and are $13 with a student ID. A fee will be added to all ticket transactions upon purchase. UK faculty and staff can receive discounted tickets buy purchasing them directly from the Singletary Center ticket office. The UK Opera Theatre program is a part of UK School of Music in UK College of Fine Arts. The School of Music program has been named an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Along with its acclaimed opera program, the School of Music also offers education in choral and instrumental music performance, music education, music therapy, music theory and composition.
