UK SA/VS to host KyAEA High School All-State Art Show

Featuring works from across the Commonwealth, the KyAEA All-State Art Show is an annual competition for high school students that begins at the regional level and culminates in a state-wide exhibition. The show will open to Sunday, April 28 at UK.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 26, 2024) — The University of Kentucky School of Art and Visual Studies (SA/VS) will host the 2024 Kentucky Art Education Association (KyAEA) High School All-State Art Show, beginning with an opening reception and awards ceremony this Sunday, April 28 on UK's campus.

The KyAEA is a professional organization for visual art educators and supporters across the state. Featuring works from across the Commonwealth, the KyAEA All-State Art Show is an annual competition for high school students that begins at the regional level and culminates in a state-wide exhibition.

This will be the first time UK SA/VS has hosted the exhibition.

"The UK School of Art and Visual Studies values supporting our visual arts educators and students across the Commonwealth, and we are excited to welcome them into our galleries, as a part of our visual arts communities," said Jody Stokes-Casey, UK assistant professor of art education.

The art show will be on display April 28 through May 17, in the Bolivar Art Gallery on UK's campus. The exhibition opening and awards reception will take place 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 28, in the Bolivar gallery, with the awards ceremony beginning at 2:30 p.m. The public is invited to both the awards and opening receptions and to view the show during regular gallery hours.

Cynthia Baker, a visual art teacher at Bourbon County High School, is coordinating the show for the first time in 2024.

"I am so glad that I have the support of our KyAEA president, Rachael Burris, and several UK SA/VS staff to pull everything together with a (in the art gallery world) short timeline," Baker said. "We would love for every art supporter in the state to help us in congratulating these fantastic artists and wish them well as many of them continue their passion for the creative arts after graduating this year. On behalf of the Kentucky Art Education Association, I would like to thank the University of Kentucky College of Fine Arts, School of Art and Visual Studies, and the Bolivar gallery for their assistance in making this show a reality."

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
