8 Things to do to Prepare for Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, which means Christmas is basically tomorrow and the semester is nearly over! Although we can't wait to have a short but sweet break from the stressors of school, here are a few things you should do to prepare.

  1. Make sure you are registered for next semester classes! If not, that's okay, it's not too late. The window will be open through break.
  2. Need a ride home? We got you! The Break Shuttle can pick you up and drop you off on campus.
  3. If you're not going home, find a place to stay over break. The Welcome Home UK program is happy to have you as their guest.
  4. Clean out your fridge! There's nothing worse than having a great break and then coming home to a fridge full of expired food.
  5. Visit The Study or Presentation U to make sure any last-minute homework questions are answered.
  6. Pack. Anything from dirty laundry to bring home for your parents to your lap top to work on some homework.
  7. Mentally prepare. Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks and also be bombarded with questions from your family about school, your future plans and love life. If you're feeling stressed try the Stressbusters Wellness App.
  8. Pat yourself on the back.  You’re entering the home stretch of the semester, congratulations!

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
