LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 21, 2025) — Thanks to donations from the University of Kentucky community, UK Transportation Services collected nearly 1 1/2 tons of food and personal care products for the Big Blue Pantry during the recent fall Donations for Citations drive.

The donations tipped the scales at 2,805 pounds from 456 individual donors. The items support UK students who are experiencing food insecurity or who require additional support to meet personal care needs.

Running from Oct. 20 through Nov. 7, the traditional two-week fall drive was extended by an additional week this year to help meet higher than usual demand for the pantry’s services.

Big Blue Pantry is an on-campus organization working to combat hunger and food insecurity for students. This twice-per-year donation drive lets people settle one regular $30 parking citation by donating food or personal care items.

Since the program’s inception in 2016, the campus community has donated more than 36,304 pounds of food and personal care items.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
