Chase Lane Named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 25, 2021) — University of Kentucky senior diver Chase Lane has been named the 2020-21 Southeastern Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year, which recognizes one male in the sport of men’s swimming and diving for his accomplishments in the classroom and in the water. 

Lane is a senior from Tallahassee, Florida, majoring in kinesiology with a 3.64 grade-point average. He is planning on a pursuing post-graduate work in physical therapy in the fall of 2021.  

A 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier, Lane owns the second-best score on platform in school history, recording 424.65 points as a sophomore to earn a silver medal at the 2019 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships. He also owns the seventh-best score on both the 1- and 3-meter springboard in program history (372.60 and 389.90, respectively).  

In 2020, Lane won the silver medal on platform at the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships and was a two-time 2020 All-American on the 1-meter springboard and platform. He was also a member of the 2020 USA Diving High Performance Team. Lane was twice named to the CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) Scholar All-America First Team (2018 and 2020) and earned the CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention in 2019. 

Lane currently serves as the men’s and women’s swimming and diving Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative. Since fall of 2020, he has also been a prominent leader in UK's Mental Health Initiative. 

Last week, Lane competed in his final SEC Swimming and Diving Championships. Last Thursday night, he earned fifth overall in the conference on the 1-meter springboard with a score 353.50.
