Construction Impacting Traffic Lanes on South Upper Street

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 26, 2019) — Work associated with burying the overhead Kentucky Utilities lines on Winslow Street, adjacent to the University of Kentucky's South Limestone Garage (PS #5) expansion project, will result in traffic impacts over the next two weeks. One lane of South Upper Street between Bolivar and Winslow will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday through approximately Friday, Oct. 4, to install an underground electrical duct bank. The overhead electrical lines are being relocated underground as part of the expansion project.

The closure will float as needed between lanes, but they will be plated and reopened for evening rush hour.

Campus bus service may also be affected somewhat during this period, as the White Route travels this route and might experience slight impact to service frequencies.

"This is a pretty big undertaking," said Gavin Wanstreet, project manager for F.A. Wilhelm Construction. "But it will look so much nicer in that area when it's finished."

Commuters should expect traffic delays in the vicinity and plan their travel accordingly.
