Event Cancellations, Postponements, Closures

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 19, 2020) — The University of Kentucky is canceling or postponing most in-person events as the result of measures being taken in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19).  Please find a partial list below based on information provided to UKNow. It will be updated regularly.

  • UK Appreciation Day, planned for Thursday, May 21, has been postponed. No date has been set yet for rescheduling, but UK Appreciation Day T-shirts will still be made available in May by order to UK departments.   • UK's Spring 2020 Commencement ceremonies are postponed. No new date has been determined yet.  Please visit this website for more information: https://www.uky.edu/commencement/springceremonies
  • In keeping with the University of Kentucky’s commitment to maintain the health, safety, and well-being of our community and reduce risks associated with the COVID-19, UK Libraries is shifting to an online service delivery model for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester. All branch locations are now closed to the public. The William T.   • From UK Philanthropy — One Day for UK, originally planned for April 21, has been postponed. The new date has not been determined yet. 
  • The Office of Community Engagement’s upcoming visit from Walter Mosley has been canceled. They are hoping to reschedule for the fall.
  • The Human Development Institute is postponing the 2020 Inclusive Workforce Summit until later in the fall.  
  • Canceled College of Education events:
    • The college of Education’s Teachers Who Made a Difference April 18 awards ceremony is canceled. They will mail awards to those nominated.
    • YouTube Live- Kinesiology and Health Promotion: Wednesday, March 25
    • Admitted Student Days through the Visitor Center- through April 24
    • CCLD Share Fair: Annual Share Fair event slated for April 17 (pre-con workshop) and April 18 (sessions & keynote luncheon) at the Marriott East in Louisville, KY, has been canceled. A virtual version will be implemented from April 15-30 to allow the 500+ participants – educators from preK through 12th grade – to showcase their work they have engaged in all year. Our scheduled keynote speaker, Cornelius Minor, will be rescheduled for another future event.
    • Dolly Parton Imagination Library Documentary Film: A nationwide screening of the documentary film, The House that Dolly Built, was slated for April 2; it has been canceled, with no definitive date for the reschedule as of yet. 
    • On campus information sessions: Teacher Certification Sessions: 12:15pm-1:15pm- Gatton Student Center Room 231; March 23; March 30; April 6; April 20
    • Exercise Science and Health Promotion Session: 12:15pm-1:15pm- Gatton Student Center Room 231; March 27; April 10; April 24
  • Social Work Preview Day (April 9) has been canceled.

    • Thesis/Dissertation Writing Camp has been moved to online platform (mostly Zoom) for workshops and small writing groups, March 16-20  
    • UK GradTeach Live! (our exclusive teaching version of the popular Three-Minute Thesis) has been canceled this semester and will resume next academic year
    • Graduate Diversity Honors Reception 2020, was to be on March 27, has been moved to May 1
    • The annual UK Society of Postdoctoral Scholars Research Symposium, scheduled for May, has been postponed to coincide with the National Postdoc Appreciation Week, now the 3rd week of September 
    • Awarding Ceremony for the Graduate Certificate in College Teaching and Learning, scheduled for early May, has been postponed until fall
    • Austin Channing Brown visit and talk, was to be April 8, now postponed until fall
  • College of Fine Arts programming canceled or postponed:​
    • UK Opera Theatre's "The Crucible" (postponed to fall 2020)
    • UK Department of Theatre and Dance's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (postponed to fall 2020);
    • School of Music's Modern Band Workshop
    • UK Symphony Orchestra's March concert
    • Big Band Blast
    • UK Choirs programming including Lori Hetzel’s anniversary concert, "After Dark," and the UK Choristers and Chorale spring concert (postponed)
    • UK Theatre and Dance Studio season
    • School of Art and Visual Studies Foundations Show (postponed and will be presented virtually)
    • Fine Arts Institute classes at UK School of Art and Visual Studies have been postponed until April 6
