Jazz Returns to WUKY on HD 3, Along With Retirement of 'Car Talk'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 28, 2012)  This fall marks the return of jazz to WUKY on HD 3, WUKY smartphone app, and live streaming at www.wuky.org. Fall also brings the retirement of "Car Talk" from WUKY's Saturday and Sunday program schedule.

Listeners will be able to tune in and enjoy some of the greatest jazz artists of all time, like Miles Davis, Billie Holiday and Dave Brubeck as well as today’s top talents, like Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall and Pat Metheny.  Knowledgeable hosts include Nick Francis who has programmed jazz radio stations all around the country; morning host Dick Stein former writer and director of the three "Jimmy Jazzoid" live radio musical comedies; Abe Beeson, the evening host who loves to go on tour at Jazz festivals; and Mary McCann, who will share her love of music with listeners on "Saturday Jazz Matinee."

"You will also hear some surprises from time to time, seasoning the jazz gumbo with blues, funk and Latin jazz," said Tom Godell, manager of WUKY, the University of Kentucky's NPR station. "WUKY, along with the NPR community, was sad to hear that Click and Clack decided to retire, but reruns of their 'Car Talk' shows are still available online at www.npr.org."

WUKY has added some new shows to its Saturday and Sunday line-up. "Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me” will air at 10 a.m. on Saturdays and from noon to 1 p.m. on Sundays. "Following "Wait Wait" on Saturday is the "Dinner Party" along with "Radio Lab," "Snap Judgment" and the premiere of Alec Baldwin’s new show "Here’s The Thing." Lynn Rosetta Kasper’s "The Splendid Table" will move to 10 a.m. on Sundays and will be followed by "The Dinner Party."

WUKY’s program schedule is available online at www.uky.org.
