Last Day to Complete Libraries Survey That Aims to Better Service

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 13, 2020) There’s still time to let University of Kentucky Libraries know what is missing from your library experience. Students who share their thoughts on UK’s library service can even enter to win a prize like a portable Bluetooth speaker, a Keurig K-mini coffee maker, and Logitech wireless gaming headphones. Don’t miss your opportunity to speak up and win.

On Sept. 22, UK Libraries opened the LibQUAL+ survey seeking faculty and student feedback about library service quality. Sponsored by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the survey takes approximately five minutes to complete. To take the survey, visit: www.libqual.org/survey/RWSLJQ52HEJ86X8HRA. The survey closes today at 10 p.m.

As an incentive to participate, undergraduate and graduate students who complete the survey will be eligible for a drawing of several prizes.

Data from the LibQUAL+ survey will help UK Libraries understand faculty and students’ expectations and perceptions of library service. University libraries across the country participate in the LibQUAL+ survey, which identifies best practices. By comparing survey results with peer institutions, UK Libraries will be able to make improvements and develop services that better meet the needs and expectations of faculty and students.

LibQUAL+ measures library users' desired, perceived, and minimum expectations of service in several areas including: access to information (print and electronic resources), customer service, facilities and equipment. Students and faculty will also be able to submit comments. All responses are anonymous and confidential.

Faculty and students can help improve their library experience at UK by completing the LibQUAL+ survey. Previously, survey results led to the increase of electronic resources, the addition of space for more individual and group study, and the improvement of existing library study spaces.

One of the major benefits of the survey is that it allows libraries to collect and interpret library user feedback systematically over time. UK has participated in the LibQUAL survey since 2001 with the last participation in spring 2017. The LibQUAL+™ project was developed by ARL and Texas A&M University.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
