New Website Connects UK Community with Health Resources
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 7, 2013) − A new website, HealthyU, now offers a centralized location for people to learn more about the various health resources available at the University of Kentucky.
Soon after his arrival in Lexington, UK President Eli Capilouto initiated efforts to encourage healthy eating and more physical activity for all members of the university community.
Representatives from the colleges of Public Health and Communication, as well as Health and Wellness, Dining Services, Housing, Parking and Transportation Services, Sustainability, Facilities, Campus Recreation, and Public Relations joined forces to discuss ways to create a healthier environment and increase accessibility to resources on campus that will make UK a healthier campus.
”One of the things we discovered is that while there are many resources on campus to facilitate healthier lifestyles, those resources aren’t always easy to find,” said Mark Swanson, associate professor in the College of Public Health’s Department of Health Behavior. The new HealthyU website is just the first step in a longer process of making health a priority for all UK students, staff, and faculty.”
Swanson said that and the HealthyU task force will continue to explore ways to enhance healthy eating and active living on the UK campus.
“The University of Kentucky is committed to the health, well-being and work-life of our faculty, staff and students,” said Capilouto. “The HealthyU website is the first component in a longer process of making a healthy lifestyle easier for our UK family to manage.”
