Serving Up Coffee and Smiles to the UK Community

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 26, 2018) —  As finals week approaches, you can find students filing in to various University of Kentucky Dining locations to fuel up on caffeine. One of these UK Dining’s locations is Brioche Dorée — located in the Gatton College of Business and Economics.

However, students know that when they visit Brioche Dorée, the coffee isn’t the only thing that will give them a little pick-me-up. Justice Parker, a UK Dining employee, is there to greet them with a smile and a word of encouragement.

Parker has worked at Brioche Dorée since it opened in the Gatton College of Business and Economics nearly two years ago. She says her favorite part of her job is interacting with so many different people every day. Parker prides herself in making her customers feel welcome and at home.

“After a customer comes in twice, I’ll know their order the next time they visit,” she said.

Parker noted her favorite part of working at UK Dining is walking around campus and into different dining locations and seeing how diverse the population is.

“People from all walks of life come in,” Parker said. “I enjoy getting to know them.”

Parker’s friendliness and dedication doesn’t go unnoticed by students, faculty and staff. She has received more than 100 positive feedback remarks to UK Dining’s guest feedback system.

“I act like a friend. I get to know my customers. I’ll ask them how their weekend was, what they did … we’ll have conversations just like friends,” she said.

Justice Parker is the epitome of a hero to UK students, faculty and staff. She unselfishly offers her kindness, service and loyalty. She has proven deserving of being considered one of the #heroesofUK.

The next time you pack a theater to watch your favorite superhero blockbuster, remember that not all heroes wear red-and-gold armor, wield a hammer or carry a shield. Some heroes wear blue and white, wield a UK degree and carry a desire to make a difference in others' lives. Meet more of UK's heroes by following along on all our social channels with #heroesofUK.
