Student Entrepreneurs Learn Common Misconceptions About Business Plans Jan. 21

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 17, 2014) — Eric Hauck, CEO/President of Equinext LLC, will talk about the 10 Misconceptions about Business Plans from 5 - 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the- James. F. Hardymon Theater in the Davis Marksbury Building.

Students will also hear about the business concept and business plan categories for UK Venture Challenge from the iNET Entrepreneur in Residence, Brian Raney. This will be the last workshop before registration opens for UK Venture Challenge on Jan. 24. All students are invited to attend.

“The role of business plans has changed and there are many misconceptions concerning the if, how, when and why business plans are needed today,” said Hauck, who runs an equine technology company located at UK’s Coldstream Research Campus. “We will discuss common misconceptions about business plans and their importance in launching a new startup in today's marketplace.”

Undergraduate and graduate student teams competing in UK Venture Challenge will enter either their respective business concept or business plan category. Students will prepare a written proposal and make their presentation to the judges based on the requirements for the category. For more, see the Venture Challenge Rules & Guidelines.

The UK Venture Challenge presentations will be Saturday, March 1, 9 a.m.–2:30 p.m., at the James. F. Hardymon Theater in the Davis Marksbury Building on Rose Street. The top winning teams − two undergraduate teams and two graduate teams − share $3,000 in scholarship prizes, and advance to the state competition, Idea State U.

The student entrepreneur monthly workshops and UK Venture Challenge competition are organized by iNET, the Innovation Network for Entrepreneurial Thinking hosted by the College of Communication and Information, with the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship / Lexington Innovation and Commercialization Center in the Gatton College of Business and Economics, and the Big Blue Starters student entrepreneur organization.
