Thanksgiving Break Transportation Changes

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 18, 2019) — Thanksgiving break is just around the corner and UK Transportation Services wants to remind students, faculty and staff that during the break there will be parking and campus bus service changes. There is also a home football game scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 30, so vehicles will need to be relocated from the periphery parking areas to make way for Wildcat football fans.

Campus Bus Service Changes On Wednesday, Nov. 27, the Blue and White Routes and the Green Route will operate on a modified schedule, ending at 6 p.m. rather than the normal midnight. The Orange Route will operate on a regular schedule.

Campus buses and Kentucky Wildcab service will not run Thursday, Nov. 28, through Saturday, Nov. 30. UK HealthCare employees working on these days are authorized to park in the patient visitor parking facilities in accordance with UK HealthCare’s policy.

On Sunday, Dec. 1, the Yellow Route will have extended hours, from 9 a.m. to midnight. All other campus bus service will resume its normal schedule on Monday, Dec. 2.

Parking Control Changes Campus parking lots and structures will not be controlled for permits on Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29, but all other parking regulations will be enforced (ADA spaces, yellow lines, fire lanes, etc.). Normal parking permit enforcement will resume on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Football Game Day Relocation The Wildcat football team is scheduled to face rival University of Louisville over Thanksgiving break. Please note that as a result of the holiday, there will be a change to the dates for vehicle relocation for this game.

Students and employees will be able to move their vehicles to relocation areas beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, but no later than 7 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30. Failure to relocate a vehicle to the designated areas can result in citation or vehicle impoundment. Vehicles must be moved back to the periphery areas before 5 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 2.

RV parking will also begin early over Thanksgiving break. Individuals should not park in the large Gluck Equine Center Lot or a portion of the Orange Lot on Friday, Nov. 29. Please see this map, which outlines specific areas reserved for RV parking. Vehicles parked in these areas will be relocated by the university.

Students who plan to leave campus for Thanksgiving break prior to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, should call UK Transportation Services at 859-257-5757 or email us to obtain special permission to move their vehicles earlier.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
