LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 11, 2025) — We are looking forward to welcoming you back to campus for the Spring 2025 semester, Wildcats. The University of Kentucky will be open and operational on Monday, Jan. 13.

Crews from across campus have worked diligently this past week to ensure our campus is ready and safe for your return. While we feel confident in these preparations, it is smart to take extra caution while traveling to your classes this week.

When traveling by foot:

  • Choose snow boots, hiking boots or shoes with textured soles.
  • Use extra caution when walking. Shuffle flat-footed and enter and exit buildings slowly.
  • Keep your hands free and out of pockets for balance.
  • Hold onto car doors or bus rails for extra balance when parking or exiting.
  • Find our designated WalkSafe routes here.

When traveling by car:

  • Review weather reports and road conditions before heading out.
  • Use headlights to increase visibility, even during the day.
  • Reduce your speed and increase your following distance to allow for safe braking.
  • Brake and accelerate gently to avoid skidding.

Additionally, UK Transportation Services offers FREE on-campus jumpstart service and discounted tow service, flat tire change, off-campus battery jumpstart, vehicle lockout and fuel service to those with a valid UK parking permit. Call 859-257-5757 during regular office hours or 859-231-0197 after hours and on weekends.

If you have concerns or need support as you return to campus, please utilize the following resources:

  • Contact UK Campus Housing at 859-257-1866 or UKhousing@uky.edu for questions or concerns about move-in.
  • For all other needs, submit the Get Help form. UK’s Office for Student Success has staff available to connect you to resources in your community or at UK.
  • Any sidewalks, building entrances or parking lots that need additional attention can be reported to snow@uky.edu.

As always, in an emergency, you should dial 911 or #UKPD while on campus. Report non-emergencies to the UK Police Department's non-emergency line at 859-257-8573.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
