#TogetherUKY: A Thank You to UK Grounds and Garage Employees

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 3, 2020) — On and off campus, members of our UK community are working to ensure that the university can keep its promise to our state — to educate, serve, research and heal. That's why UKNow is launching this new, weekly "#TogetherUKY" series to thank some of the UK faculty and staff who are a representation of all our employees who are working hard in numerous areas and departments around our campus. We can't continue our mission without their commitment, resilience and collaborative spirit during this challenging time. We will get through this together.

In the new series starting today, University of Kentucky thanks the many people it takes to keep the university moving forward in a time of pandemic uncertainty. Today's shoutout goes to UK's grounds and garage crew who make up most of the people seen outdoors on campus now. And Mary Vosevich, vice president for facilities management at UK, says their work means a lot.

"All year-round — and particularly in these challenging times — I am incredibly proud of our Facilities Management family. They continue to come to campus, following CDC recommendations, to serve our campus and our community," Vosevich said. "Today, we are highlighting our grounds and garage crew who help keep our campus looking beautiful, especially as the grounds come back to life this spring. They represent all of our hard-working team members in Facilities Management who will have the campus ready and waiting for the return of our students, faculty, staff and visitors when we get through this pandemic. Their efforts allow members of the UK community to learn, work and enjoy life in a safe, lovely and engaging environment.”

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
