Transportation Services Improves Bike Racks Around Campus
LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 27, 2017) — In preparation for the start of fall semester, University of Kentucky Transportation Services is improving bicycle parking at various campus locations. During this work, some bike racks may be temporarily relocated and/or out of service. Members of the campus community who have bikes parked at any of the racks listed below should move them no later than Monday, Aug. 7.
At the Commonwealth House and the German House, the existing bike parking is being upgraded to a newer style of rack. The four bike racks in front of the Markey Cancer Center will be removed and replaced with newer racks. The bike parking on the southeast corner of the Plant Sciences Building will be removed and upgraded to the newer rack style. The rack in the College of Medicine Learning Center Lot will be removed and replaced with an upgraded style of bike parking. At the Health Sciences Building, the bike parking on either side of the building entrance will be removed and replaced with a newer rack style. At the Willard Med Science Building, the racks positioned between the Health Sciences and Dental Science Building, will be removed and replaced with a larger bank of the updated racks.
On Columbia Avenue between the Kappa Alpha Theta and Delta Zeta houses, the bike parking is being relocated so that it is immediately adjacent to the sidewalk, as well as updated to the newer rack style. The existing bike parking at the Kentucky Tobacco Center will be removed and updated with new racks; the new racks will be on either side of the building entrance. New bike parking will be installed outside the door of Greenhouse #12, replacing the existing rack at the corner of the building. At the Dental Science Building, the racks on the southeast side of the building will be removed, and the racks on the north corner of the building will be upgraded to the newer style.
The bike rack located under a tree between the Kappa Alpha Theta and Phi Sigma Kappa houses is being removed. The nearby racks on the sidewalk will be reconfigured so as to be more convenient.
As part of this project, bike parking will also be added behind the Chi Omega house.
