LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 5, 2024) — In the interest of the safety and well-being of the campus community, the University of Kentucky will be closed on Monday, Jan. 6, due to inclement weather.

In-person activities will not take place on campus. If winter intersession students have questions about their online class status, they should contact their instructor.

On-campus employees except Plan B (designated) employees should not report to work. If employees have questions about procedures for their work, they should contact their manager. UK is taking this step after reviewing current conditions and forecasts for continued snow and ice.

UK HealthCare hospitals remain open and operating on normal hours. Any changes in hours for clinics will be posted to www.uky.edu/alerts.

Facilities crews are working hard to clear roads, parking lots and sidewalks. If you are on campus, please exercise caution and view tips to navigate campus safely, including maps showing the first sidewalks to be cleared during winter weather.

Emergency management officials and university leaders will continue to monitor conditions and weather forecasts.

Other important details:

  • Designated Plan B employees are required to report to work on campus.
  • Designated employees via remote access are required to work remotely.
  • Employee FAQs related to emergency closures are available here.
  • As a reminder, if there is a change in the university’s status, the university will send a UK Alert.
