UK Venture Studio to Host 'Hands-on' Prototyping Workshop Feb. 13

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 31, 2017) The Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship, part of the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics, will host a hands-on prototyping workshop at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, in the UK Venture Studio, located in room 124 of the Gatton College building. The event will feature three guest speakers: Todd Hastings from the UK College of Engineering, Doug Clarke from Kre8Now Makerspace in Lexington, and Marissa Wilson from the UK College of Design.

The workshop will be very engaging and interactive. The Von Allmen Center will also showcase their 3D printers, and give away 3D printed items. Light refreshments will be provided and themed around Valentine’s Day.

"This will be a great opportunity for UK students, staff, faculty and Lexington community members to learn about prototyping and what it means at various levels for startups,” said Mariam Gorjian, commercialization specialist in the Von Allmen Center. “Our guest speakers will talk about their experiences with prototyping and how they meet specific development needs, such as lab spaces on campus, creating websites or constructing physical products.”

The Von Allmen Center Makerspace and 3D printing capabilities are funded through the center’s  U.S. Economic Development Administration grant (EDA), which helps support innovation and economic growth.
