University Health Service Offers Educational Events During Safer Sex Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 11, 2013) – University Health Service will host its annual Safer Sex Week 2013 beginning Feb. 11. Students can receive free materials and participate in testing and awareness events offered to highlight the need to practice safer sex.

"More than half of our UK students have never been tested for HIV and therefore don't know their status," said Brandy Reeves, health education coordinator for University Health Service. "Safer Sex Week is a series of events that we hope will educate students about sexual health, sexuality and safer sex."

Safer Sex Week 2013 events include:

Monday, Feb. 11

  • Sexual Feud, 7 p.m., 217 Whitehall Classroom Building. Games and free food.

Monday, Feb. 11 through Wednesday, Feb. 13

  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- Free condoms and safer sex materials at the UHS table outside the Student Center Starbucks

Thursday, Feb. 14

  • 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. --- Free HIV testing, 363 Student Center. HIV results will be available in 20 minutes. (No needles are used in testing.)
