Upcoming road closure: Washington Avenue

LEXINGTON, KY (July 16, 2025) – Contractors are scheduled to replace a manhole on Washington Avenue next week, which will require temporary closure of the roadway.
Washington Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning 5 p.m. Friday, July 25, through Sunday evening, July 27. This work is weather-dependent.
The south sidewalk closest to Scovell Hall will also be unavailable during this time. Pedestrians and cyclists can detour around the area using sidewalks on Huguelet Drive or behind Research Facility No. 1 (College of Public Health building).
If this work cannot be completed by Sunday, July 27, contractors will install a steel plate over the work area to allow one lane of traffic to travel that roadway on Monday, July 28.
Parking permit holders who typically park in this area will need to make alternate arrangements.
