W. Scott Black Appointed Director of PAS at College of Health Sciences
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 21, 2015) - Dr. W. Scott Black has been appointed director of the Division of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences, effective Jan. 4, 2016.
“The College fosters a culture of collaboration, aimed at preparing our graduates to serve as health care leaders. Dr. Black brings a unique collaborative perspective to the College, with experience in family medicine, university health care, and sports medicine,” said Scott. M. Lephart, dean of the College of Health Sciences. “We are excited to see how his leadership and creativity will elevate the PAS program and the College.”
Black currently serves as the medical director of UK Employee Health and is also a team physician for the UK Wildcats and the EKU Colonels. He is a graduate of the UK College of Medicine and completed his family medicine residency at UK. After working in private practice for several years, he returned to UK to finish a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
“I’m very excited to be joining the PAS Program as its director,” Black said. “It gives me the opportunity to work with a group of medical professionals who I believe represent one of the solutions to this country’s health care delivery problem. I look forward to getting to know the faculty, staff, and students much better and working together to expand an already innovative academic program.”
The UK College of Health Sciences, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2016, is an interprofessional community of service-oriented scholars that aspires to change lives through education, research, healing, and care. The College offers undergraduate and graduate/professional programs in: Athletic Training, Clinical Leadership and Management, Clinical Nutrition, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Human Health Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, and Rehabilitation Sciences.
