Weekly Update Issued Feb. 11

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 11, 2022) — University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto issued a weekly update to the campus community about the recent inclement weather, sharing the UK story and the university's response to COVID-19 on the morning of Friday, Feb. 11. You can read that update message below.

Dear Campus Community,

This week, I was reminded several times about the faith so many across Kentucky have in this place and of the deep commitments we have to each other as members of this community.

Every dollar is a promise

On Thursday, we announced a historic $5 million gift from the university’s single largest donor, Bill Gatton. It’s the single largest scholarship gift UK has ever received.

Because of it, more Kentucky students will have less financial need.

More young doctors will be educated and trained to provide healing and hope in communities across the Commonwealth. And more promising scholars will be the first in their families to attend college, changing not only the trajectory of their lives, but of their families for generations to come.

You can read details about this remarkable gift here.

It is a reminder to me that, in an important sense, every dollar is a promise. Bill Gatton believes in the power of this place and the power of its promise — to advance Kentucky by working to ensure a state that is healthier, wealthier and wiser.

Keeping Each Other Safe
