Act of 'Arting' Earns UK Students Prizes from Find Arts Fest
UK School of Music students Tanner Jones, Benjamin Norton and Justin Cornelison were awarded free passes to College of Fine Arts events for their submission in the contest as a part of the inaugural Find Arts Fest. This event, which was held Oct. 6-14, celebrated the myriad of exciting arts opportunities available to UK students and the community. The event included students showcasing their love for the arts through public displays of art, called "Arting," which were posted on the College of Fine Arts Facebook page.
The winning students helped coordinate and produce two parodies of the YouTube hit video “Gangnam Style,” by the artist Psy, which featured several UK students and faculty lip syncing to the song in locations on campus as well as around Lexington. The videos also re-interpreted the song through various music styles.

Other "Arting” events during the Find Arts Fest included an art parade coordinated by Rae Goodwin, assistant professor of foundations at the UK School of Art and Visual Studies. A large group of arts administration students descended on the UK Student Center Food Court, flash mob style, and showed diners how the arts come alive everyday on campus and UK Dance Program Coordinator Susie Thiel led a dance improvisation on the lawn of the William T. Young Library.
Arts events on stage and in galleries also abounded during Find Arts Fest. UK Opera Theatre’s "The Phantom of the Opera" was an enormous success, with nearly 11 sold out performances at the Lexington Opera House. UK Department of Theatre’s "Dangerous Liasons" delivered a stunning and unique perspective on the 18th century French drama. Nearly 75 students and guests attended an outdoor sculpture tour of the Art Museum at UK Sculpture Garden and numerous student works across campus. Also, the exhibition of works titled, "Mettle," by School of Art and Visual Studies faculty continues to bring visitors to the Art Museum at UK.
Plans are already being made for Find Arts Fest 2013.
The UK College of Fine Arts – composed of the School of Art and Visual Studies, School of Music, Department of Theatre, Arts Administration Program, Singletary Center for the Arts and the Art Museum at UK – presents hundreds of events annually, reaching tens of thousands of people on UK’s campus and in the community. While many of the student artists presented in these events were College of Fine Arts majors, many are pursuing degrees in other colleges, ranging from biology to business to social work.
