LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 30, 2013) — The inaugural SpeakBlue Distinguished Speaker, Anderson Cooper, will speak tonight at 8 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum. “From the Front Lines: An Evening with Anderson Cooper,” sponsored by the Student Activities Board Multicultural Affairs Committee, is a ticketed event. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

Cooper, host of CNN’s Emmy Award-winning "Anderson Cooper 360°" and reporter for CBS’s "60 Minutes," has become one of the most respected journalists of this generation. He is especially known for his coverage of Hurricane Katrina, the Iraq War, the 2011 Haiti earthquake and most recently, the Egyptian revolution. Cooper will discuss his experiences, anecdotes and lessons learned from reporting on-location for some of the most prominent news events of our time. Beth Barnes, director of the School of Journalism and Telecommunications, will moderate the event.

“Students will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights from Cooper that reach across career fields or academic disciplines,” said Teran Sundy, SAB director of multicultural affairs. “Cooper embodies all that a SpeakBlue Distinguished Speaker should be and we’re proud to host this event.”
