Classical Pianist Paremski to Play With UK Orchestra
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 7, 2012) − Celebrated Russian-born pianist Natasha Paremski will perform in concert with the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of John Nardolillo. The concert featuring the classical pianist will take the stage 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall.
The noted classical pianist will join UK Symphony Orchestra for a concert featuring performances of Edvard Grieg’s Concerto in A minor, Op. 16 and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5.
Born in Moscow, Paremski’s family made the difficult decision to immigrate to the United States in the early 1990s to escape crime and economic instability after her father, a noted scientific researcher, was assaulted in what was thought to be one of the city's safest neighborhoods. The young girl resumed piano lessons after settling in California and has since launched a career thanks to abundant technical and interpretive abilities that defy her young age. With consistently striking and dynamic performances, Paremski reveals astounding virtuosity and voracious interpretive abilities for someone in her 20s. She continues to generate excitement from all corners, winning over audiences with her musical sensibility and flawless technique.
In September 2010, Paremski was awarded the Classical Recording Foundation’s Young Artist of the Year, and her brand new self-titled debut solo album not only debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard Traditional Classical Chart, but was the No. 1 bestseller in Barnes and Noble's New Releases in Classical. Her growing list of awards includes the Prix Montblanc 2007, the 2006 Gilmore Young Artist Award, top prize in the 2002 Bronislaw Kaper Awards, and top prize in the Young Artists in Carnegie Hall 2000 International Piano Festival.
Paremski made her professional debut at age 9 with the El Camino Youth Symphony in California. At 15 years old, she debuted with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and recorded two discs on the Bel Air Music Label with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra under Dmitry Yablonsky, the first featuring Anton Rubinstein's Piano Concerto No. 4 coupled with Sergei Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and the second featuring all of Frédéric Chopin's shorter works for piano and orchestra.
Last summer Paremski toured Latvia and Austria with Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica, performing Chopin Piano Concerto Nos. 1 and 2. They performed at 30th anniversary of Kammermusikfest Lockenhaus, of which Gidon Kremer served as artistic director. Her past appearances include performances with the San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony, Houston Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, Dallas Symphony, New York Youth Symphony at Carnegie Hall, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan. Paremski has also given recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall, the Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, the Schloss Elmau and Verbier festivals, and on the Rising Stars Series of Gilmore and Ravinia.
