Coaches, School Officials Invited to Sports-Related Concussions Program Hosted by UK Sports Medicine

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 28, 2012)  — Specialists from University of Kentucky Sports Medicine will host a discussion on sports-related concussions from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, in the William T. Young Library auditorium on the first floor.

UK Head Team Physician Dr. James Jagger and UK Concussion Assessment Research Laboratory Director Scott Livingston will lead an informative discussion on what coaches, parents, athletes and school administrators need to know to keep players safe on the field and after the game, including how to detect concussions and the dangers of repeated head injuries.

"Obviously, the ultimate goal is to prevent concussions from ever occuring in these young athletes, but we know that accidents will always happen," Livingston said. "We want everyone involved in the care and supervision of young athletes to be aware of the signs and symptoms to look for in a player who may have been concussed, and what steps they should take to aid recovery."

The discussion is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the visitor parking lot on Hilltop Avenue (next to the Young Library).
