College of Engineering to Dedicate eStudio

Published: Nov 27, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 27, 2012) — The University of Kentucky College of Engineering will formally dedicate its Elbert C. Ray eStudio 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the Raymond Student Commons of the Ralph G. Anderson building. Students, faculty and staff in the College of Engineering are invited to attend.

The eStudio is a space devoted to improving written, oral, visual, and digital communication skills of engineering students.

"This new studio underscores one of the core tenets of a modern, high-quality education — the idea that students must be prepared with a number of skills to compete in a global, interdependent economy," said UK President Eli Capilouto."For engineering students, the ability to communicate clearly — in technical writing, scientific and lab reports and grant proposals — is crucial to their development and success."

The eStudio is the latest example of UK’s commitment to providing the most up-to-date tools for students, in particular, in garnering the skills necessary to communicate successfully. As part of its accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), UK has undertaken a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP): a specific area of academic focus to which the entire institution is committed. UK’s QEP is called “Presentation U,” which represents the collaborative efforts taking place across the campus to create opportunities for students to learn these communications skills.
