POSTPONED: Election Law Symposium Postponed Due to Weather

This event has been postponed due to inclement weather. More information will be available once it is rescheduled.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 15, 2016) — As the race to the White House intensifies and the presidential election year is officially underway, election legal issues are sure to arise. The Kentucky Law Journal and University of Kentucky College of Law will address many of these issues in an upcoming event Friday, Jan. 22, at the Law Building.

"An Elective Perspective: Judicial Regulation of Politics in an Election Year," an all-day event, will feature panels of legal scholars from around the country and local attorneys.

Discussions will focus on voter identification laws, gerrymandering, referendum initiatives, election litigation, campaign finance, the constitutional right to vote, and the book "Ballot Battles," which is about the history of contested elections in the United States.

"Fair and efficient elections serve as a pillar in the foundation of American democracy," said UK College of Law Dean David A. Brennen. "It is indeed a privilege to see our law students at the forefront in hosting a symposium that could not be more timely in our history. We look forward to a great day of discussion on the issues at hand."

Professor Joshua Douglas, an election law expert at the UK College of Law, and Mark Roth of the Kentucky Law Journal will welcome guests at 9 a.m. Discussions will begin thereafter, breaking for a two-hour lunch and concluding at 5 p.m. A full schedule is available here.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register, visit http://law.uky.edu/academics/registration-election-law-symposium. The event has also been accredited by the Kentucky Bar Association Commission on Legal Education for a total of five hours of CLE credit.
