LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 6, 2012) ― University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto often refers to UK as a promise.
It's the idea that nearly 150 years ago, the university was formed as a covenant with the people of the state to provide education, conduct research and render service ― all in the hopes of creating a brighter future for the Commonwealth.
The UK community ― through conversations taking place across the campus and in the midst of continued economic challenges ― is creating a new agenda, a blueprint for the future, to define what the Kentucky Promise means for a new generation.
During the 2012-2013 academic year, UK Public Relations and Marketing will be exploring the meaning and direction of The Kentucky Promise in greater detail.
Through written narrative, video and radio accounts as well as special social media efforts, UK Public Relations and Marketing will focus each month on a different value ― a brand attribute ― that defines UK and The Kentucky Promise in the 21st Century.
From service and innovation to discovery and excellence, the stories will examine the different ways that UK's students, faculty and staff honor values and a special mission as a land-grant, flagship institution that fulfill the Kentucky Promise today.
In August, stories will focus on the brand attribute "involvement," examining ways that students, faculty and staff are involved in campus life, community and other issues to make the Commonwealth a better place.
Over the next several months, stories and accounts will be displayed across all the university's communications platforms ― from feature stories in UKnow to special blog posts from Capilouto and honorees during time-outs at UK that underscore the values that comprise The Kentucky Promise today.
