It’s A Woman’s World

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 1, 2016)  Last June, news was swarming about the lady who climbed a flag pole outside the South Carolina State House to unhook the Confederate flag. Student Activities Board (SAB) invites you to meet this activist — Brittany Ann Byuarium "Bree" Newsome. Beginning 8 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 2, in Memorial Hall, join SAB to hear from Newsome as she discusses her success before and after her courageous activism.

Newsome is an American activist and filmmaker from Charlotte, North Carolina. Advocacy runs through her blood. She also participated in a sit-in for fair voter rights. A woman of many levels, she is also a singer and songwriter.

“Her ambition has me sold,” said Rockia Harris, the director of Multicultural Affairs. “I wish I had the physical strength to climb the flagpole and take down the Confederate flag. It's actually very cool and inspiring!”

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Questions are encouraged!
