OLLI at UK in Morehead to Hold Spring Open House and Registration

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 15, 2012) − Adults age 50 an over who love to learn and want to meet people with the same interests are invited to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Kentucky's Open House in Morehead.  The dynamic group includes more than 90 learners in Eastern Kentucky who are discovering new interests every day.

Open House and registration will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Morehead United Methodist Church.  At the event, attendees can preview a selection of courses, special interest groups and events, chat with instructors, meet the OLLI Leadership Council and sign up to help with committees, enjoy refreshments, and register for door prizes.  In addition, a special production of excerpts from "Stories in Stone" will be performed by J.D. Reeder and guest performers.  "Stories in Stone," is an original dramatic work based on the lives of 24 Rowan Countians who lived in the late 19th century.  The characters come to life, tell their stories and relate incidents from Rowan County’s colorful past.    
 

This spring, OLLI at UK will be offering the following courses:  Political Economy:  Election Year Topics; Genealogy 102; Studio Art:  Drawing; Technology Topics Tailored to You; and Futuristic Science Fiction Films.  Special interest groups included in the membership fee include:  Bridge; Non-Fiction Books of Interest, Importance and Impact; Spanish for All Levels; and Creative Writing Projects. 
 

A special event, World War II:  Looking Back, will be held March 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Morehead United Methodist Church.  Veterans, including Dr. Jack Ellis, will be sharing their experiences during World War II.  Exhibits and refreshments will begin at 8:30 a.m. WWII:  Looking Back is free and open to the public.    
 

Registration is on a first come basis.  The Open House begins at 1 p.m. with Stories in Stone; Instructor presentations will begin at 1:30 p.m.; and registration tables will be open from 2 to 3 p.m.  Annual membership through summer 2012 is $15.  Course fees vary but most are $10.
