Second Global Entrepreneur Week is Nov. 12-18

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 31, 2012) — A full seven days of innovation celebration and entrepreneurial inspiration is coming to Lexington Nov. 12-18.  Lexington Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) will feature a formal kickoff event and new start-up recognition Monday morning; business model generation and marketing and branding workshops; Stand Up for Your Small Business Pitch Competition; Geeks Night Out; Start-Up Weekend and much more.

Lexington GEW is part of a world-wide celebration of innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. During one week each November, more than 120 countries world-wide host events designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs spot opportunities, take risks, solve problems, build connections, etc.

The Bluegrass Business Development Partnership — including the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, the University of Kentucky and Commerce Lexington — is supporting GEW in Lexington for the second year in a row. GEW is organized by the Lexington Innovation & Commercialization Center and the Bluegrass Small Business Development Center, part of the University of Kentucky.

The 2012 Lexington GEW program lineup includes:

  • Nov. 12, 10 a.m.: Kickoff and Announcements with Lexington Mayor Jim Gray and UK Interim Provost Tim Tracy at Commerce Lexington, free event
  • Nov. 12, 2 p.m.: Stand Up for Your Start-Up Pitch Competition at Commerce Lexington, free event — Only Bluegrass Region participants are eligible to compete.
  • Nov. 14, 5:30 p.m.: Continue the Marketing-Branding Conversation at West 6th Street Brewery in Lexington 
  • Nov. 16, 10 a.m.: Student Meet-up Event on UK’s Campus with Ben Casnocha at University of Kentucky Marksbury Building auditorium, free event — NOTE: This event is for University of Kentucky students ONLY.  Register: www.gewlexstudentmeet.eventbrite.com
  • Nov. 16, 11:30 a.m.: Keynote – Ben Casnocha, nationally known entrepreneur, blogger and co-author of "The Start-Up of You" and author of "My Start-Up Life." Presented by the Lexington Venture Club at the Hyatt Regency, 410 West High Street (Regency Ballroom). Advance registration by credit card only is required and seating is limited.  Cost: $35 (includes lunch) with option to purchase book for additional $15, with author book signing to follow the event.
