Student Entrepreneurs: Write a Business Plan and Market Your Start-up Company

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov 7, 2012) — Student entrepreneurs at the University of Kentucky will learn about business plans and entrepreneurial marketing, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 10, at the UK Student Center, Room 231.

The networking event, organized by iNET, the Innovation Network for Entrepreneurial Thinking, will feature two campus experts. Dean Harvey, executive director of the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship, will talk about the elements of a business plan, and Ikenna Uzuegbunam, strategy and entrepreneurship associate professor in the Gatton College of Business and Economics, will present entrepreneurial marketing.

The monthly student-entrepreneur events lead up to the 2013 UK Venture Challenge on Feb. 16. The Venture Challenge is open to undergraduate and graduate student teams competing in either the business concept or the business plan categories.

The first-place team wins $2,000, with $1,000 going to the second-place team, from the Bluegrass Business Development Partnership of Lexington Fayette Urban County Government, Commerce Lexington and UK . Winning teams also advance to the state competition, Idea State U. Written entries for UK Venture Challenge are due Jan. 28.

Partners for the Nov. 10 event include the Big Blue Starters, the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship and the Lexington Innovation & Commercialization Center.
