Students Eligible for Discount for Urban Mountain Challenge

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 13, 2012) — Students at the University of Kentucky and other area colleges are eligible for a reduced registration fee for the Urban Mountain Challenge organized by the Downtown Lexington Corporation on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Lexington Financial Center. 

The Urban Mountain Challenge is an individually timed event where climbers will be competing against the clock for fastest time. Participants will climb 29 stories, or 638 stairs, to the top of the Lexington Financial Center, the big blue building at 250 West Main Street in Lexington.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the UK College of Education,  UK College of Communications and Information Studies and the Downtown Lexington Corporation Foundation. The registration fee for college students is $25. Public safety officials (firefighters, police, and military) are eligible for a reduced registration fee of $30. The regular individual registration fee is $45 before 5 p.m. on Jan. 17, or $50 afterward. 

At the top, climbers can look out at the breathtaking panoramic view of downtown Lexington, then enjoy a celebration with food, drinks and entertainment at the Survivors’ Party outside the financial center. Every registered participant will receive a long sleeve T-shirt with their race packet.

Individuals 13 years old and older are welcome to participate. All minors under the age of 18 must provide a signature from a parent or guardian upon registration. More details and an online registration form can be found at www.downtownlex.com.
