UK to Host Discussion of African Diaspora Partnerships, Telemedicine Initiatives

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 16, 2014) — The University of Kentucky and the organization "People to People" (P2P) will host a roundtable discussion from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, in Room 230 of the UK Student Center. Representatives will discuss a "Triangular Partnership," a concept that focuses on relationships between universities, international exchange programs and telemedicine initiatives. Part of Global Diaspora Week, the event offers an excellent opportunity to both create strategies and strengthen partnerships between UK and P2P.

P2P is an institution in charge of mobilizing and coordinating U.S. universities (which are pools of medical and scientific knowledge), diaspora resources, and African medical institutions as beneficiaries of capacity building support. According to the International Diaspora Engagement Alliance's website, "University of Kentucky has expanded its partnerships worldwide, including in East African and Subsaharan African universities. P2P and UK believe establishing relations among African universities will be a unique opportunity to exchange lessons learned and expand networkings. The diaspora is the bedrock foundation for the 'triangular partnership' that serves as a bridge between western institutions and developing countries' institutions."
