UK Professor Receives Distinguished Physician Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 11, 2016) – Dr. Thomas Waid, professor in the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, received the Distinguished Physician Award from the National Kidney Foundation on March 12.

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) is an organization dedicated to the awareness and treatment of kidney disease. The award recognizes Waid’s leadership and commitment to the NKF mission and his contributions to the health and wellbeing of individuals and families affected by kidney disease. The foundation is honoring him for demonstrating great efforts in making an outstanding impact on the lives of those served.

Waid is a professor of internal medicine, specializing in nephrology with more than 34 years experience. He has held numerous leadership positions, with the most recent being medical director of the kidney transplantation program and pancreas transplant program. He started the Organ Failure and Transplant Network in 2008 and has been its medical director since that time.
