UK College of Pharmacy to Honor Late Educators

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 18, 2013) — The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy will celebrate American Pharmacy Educator Week next week by honoring two of the College’s most distinguished academicians, the late Emeritus Dean Joseph V. Swintosky and the late Professor Thomas S. Foster.

The college will host the annual Dr. Joseph V. Swintosky Distinguished Lecture at noon on Monday, Oct. 21. This year's lecture, “What Do Mitochondria and Dean Swintosky Have in Common?” will be delivered by Mark N. Gillespie, professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. Gillespie earned his Ph.D. at UK and was named Outstanding Graduate Program Alumnus for the Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2010. A program and reception will take place at 4 p.m.

On Thursday, Oct. 24, the college will observe the inaugural Dr. Thomas S. Foster Leadership Day. Henry J. Mann, dean of The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, will deliver a lecture at noon, titled “Leadership, Mentorship and Embracing Change.” The lecture will be followed by an academic pharmacy panel and breakout sessions. A program and reception will take place at 4 p.m.

The events will be hosted by the College of Pharmacy at the BioPharm Complex. Lectures will take place in Rooms 124 and 152. The afternoon receptions will take place in the atrium.
