The MLS Program, part of the UK College of Health Sciences, was established in 1933 as Medical Technology. It was one of the first such programs in the U.S. and one of the first medical programs established at UK, existing before the College of Health Sciences. The UK MLS program is one of three bachelor’s degree level, university-based MLS programs in Kentucky. The intensive 18-month program provides sequential instruction in laboratory medicine for students who have been well-prepared in science and mathematics during the first two years of study at the university.
In Fall 2012, the MLS Program began offering courses to students at the UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health in Hazard and the first class is due to graduate in December 2013.
