Vasconez Elected President of American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 29 2012) -- The University of Kentucky's Dr. Henry C. Vasconez was elected the president of the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons (ASMS) at the annual meeting in New Orleans on Oct. 29.

Vasconez serves as the William S. Farish Chair of Plastic Surgery and as a professor of surgery and pediatrics in the UK College of Medicine.

Vasconez received his medical training at Central University Medical School in Quito, Ecuador. He completed a general surgery residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago and a plastic surgery residency at Emory University in Atlanta. He also completed a fellowship in craniofacial and pediatric surgery  at the International Craniofacial Institute in Dallas. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

His main research interests include bone metabolism, bone substitutes and wound healing. He also specializes in craniofacial surgery, pediatric plastic surgery, breast reconstruction and aesthetic surgery.

The American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons is the oldest American organization representing maxillofacial surgeons who are devoted to improving and promoting the highest levels of patient care. Maxillofacial and Craniofacial surgeons specialize in bone and soft tissue reconstruction and enhancement of the face. Members of the ASMS are a collegial group of more than 500 surgeons who share a keen interest in surgery of the face and skull.
