LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 23, 2020) — DanceBlue's Fall Blitz Week has arrived! Being one of the most participated in events on the University of Kentucky’s campus, DanceBlue takes all year to fundraise and plan the dance marathon and various events throughout the school year.

To mark the closing of team registration, the DanceBlue Committee will host a Blitz Week, Sept.28 through Oct. 2, with on-campus tabling events, several exciting social media challenges and a giveaway. DanceBlue works in support of the DanceBlue Kentucky Children's Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic.

Monday, Sept. 28: Memory Monday

Everyone involved in DanceBlue has a favorite memory, whether it’s vivacious committee meetings or a funny story from the marathon. On Memory Monday, DanceBlue organizers will be tabling socially distanced outside of the Mining and Mineral Resources Building on Rose Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They encourage all DanceBlue supporters to share their memories on social media for a chance to win DanceBlue merchandise using the hashtag #DBlitzWeek and tagging them on Instagram @uk_danceblue. Each use of the hashtag is an entry into the giveaway, and a winner will be randomly selected on Friday, Oct. 2.

Tuesday, Sept. 29: Team Tuesday

Team Tuesday is a social media day full of supporting past and present teams of DanceBlue. The DanceBlue Committee will post some exciting graphics that spotlight different aspects of team involvement during DanceBlue. Anyone is welcome to participate in these challenges or post a picture of their team. Be sure to use #DBlitzWeek and tag DanceBlue @uk_danceblue on Instagram.

Wednesday, Sept. 30: On Wednesday We Wear Ribbons

On Wednesday, the committee is encouraging UK community members to show how you wear your ribbons. Post a picture on your social media wearing your DanceBlue ribbon during the day and tag @uk_danceblue on Instagram using #DBlitzWeek. Don’t have a ribbon? Stop by a table at Mining and Mineral Resources from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday to pick one up.

Thursday, Oct. 1: Thoughtful Thursday

While everything DanceBlue does as an organization is "For The Kids," Thoughtful Thursday is all about the impact that DanceBlue has had on both families and its participants. Organizers want to hear stories from DanceBlue Clinic employees and DanceBlue supporters who post their “I DanceBlue  Because…” story on Instagram. Anyone is welcome to participate and can tag DanceBlue @uk_danceblue and use #DBlitzWeek.

Friday, Oct. 2: Film It Friday

On the last day of Blitz Week, the DanceBlue Committee is sending messages directly to the kids for Film It Friday. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the committee has restructured its annual clinic card writing to take place in the form of an event designed to give the kids the same support and encouragement in a safe way. On Friday, organizers will be set up at Mining and Mineral Resources from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to encourage DanceBlue participants to film a (masked) message to the kids. If you cannot make it to campus to film your message, you are encouraged to film your message yourself and send it to publicrelations@danceblue.org to be passed along to the kids,

DanceBlue has fostered a sense of community both on UK’s campus and across the state of Kentucky. From supporting the families in the clinic to dancing, sweating and laughing together during the marathon, the bonds the organization creates are unbreakable. In order to be part of this, students must register their teams by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2. To take part in this fight to beat cancer, register your team today.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
