UK Recycling continues Give and Go Donation Station program
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 5, 2022) — University of Kentucky Recycling, in partnership with Goodwill Industries of the Bluegrass, is continuing to offer their Give and Go Donation Stations. The stations, set up in the lobby of every residence hall on campus from now through Dec. 16, are available for students to drop off any items they wish to donate as they prepare to leave campus for the Winter Break. This is the sixth year this program has been offered to students since it first began in 2017.
Students can donate anything from clothes and household items to non-perishable food items. Food items are donated to the Big Blue Pantry. All other items are donated to Goodwill.
The goal of the program is to encourage students to donate usable items rather than throw them away. UK Waste Minimization/Zero Waste Administrator Esther Moberly encourages every student to consider donating items instead of throwing them away.
"This will help UK reduce the amount of waste that is sent to the landfill, take steps toward becoming a zero-waste campus and provide resources that will go to those that could benefit from them,” she said.
The Give and Go Donation Station program is also supported by several other UK departments — Trucking, Residence Life, Campus Housing, Auxiliary Services, Sustainability and Big Blue Pantry, which all collaborate with UK Recycling and Goodwill to make the program possible.
