UK HealthCare Honors Legends of Nursing

of

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 21, 2010) − UK HealthCare and the Lexington Legends are honoring a different hospital nurse during each of the Legends' Sunday home games this season. The special recognition honors nurses from the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, Kentucky Children's Hospital and UK's Good Samaritan Hospital. The recognition is called UK HealthCare Legends of Nursing.

Selected nurses receive four box seats to the game, where they are introduced to the crowd before having the honor of throwing out the first pitch. The nurses are also recognized throughout the UK HealthCare system through the circulation of digital posters commemorating their experience.

"Without our wonderful nurses, those nurses who have given 'legendary care' to patients and families, we would not have achieved the Magnet Hospital designation for nursing excellence," said Kathleen Kopser, senior nursing administrator. "We appreciate all of the work and dedication of the nurses from the UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital, Kentucky Children's Hospital and UK's Good Samaritan Hospital.”

Nurses honored so far are Roger Yankey, who has worked for UK Chandler Hospital for more than 30 years; Diana Holzhauser, a pediatric oncology nurse at Kentucky Children's Hospital since 1998; Kathy Love-Phillips, a nurse at UK's Good Samaritan Hospital; Kelly Patterson, a nurse at UK Chandler Hospital; and Jo Ann Maddox, who began her nursing career in 1968 at UK Chandler Hospital and now works as a surgical nurse at UK's Good Samaritan Hospital.

Nurses will continue to be honored at the Sunday home games throughout the season.

"Our exemplary nurses are definitely UK HealthCare nursing MVPs," said Kopser. "We congratulate all of them."
